A little bit about the structure of ultracapacitors
In the process of development of electrical engineering and radio electronics, a new element has appeared - a ultracapacitor. It is a capacitor with an electrolyte of an organic or inorganic type, the double electric layer acts as the plates of it. The latter is located at the boundary between the electrolyte and the electrode. It is at the point of separation of these two media between the two plates that the EDLC accumulate a charge. The ultracapacitor stores all energy in the form of a static electric charge. Electricity is accumulated when a constant voltage element is applied to the external terminals.
In conventional capacitors, the foil plates are separated by a dielectric. In addition to the plates, ultracapacitors also have a special electrolyte. In fact, they combine the capabilities of a capacitor and an electrochemical battery. The total capacity is increased through the use of materials with a very large intrinsic surface area. - activated carbon;
- metal oxides;
- conductive polymers.
The density of the tank when using such materials can exceed 10 Farad / cm3. If coal materials are used in the production, then the price for such a ultracapacitor will be the lowest.
The EDLC can operate on an aqueous or organic electrolyte. In the first case, a feature of the cells is a low internal resistance and a limited charge voltage of not more than 1 V. For cells with an organic electrolyte, the charge voltage can be 2-3 V, but the resistance is noticeably higher.
If you want to buy a ultracapacitor, then you should not expect to replace it with a traditional battery. These elements work differently, and each of them has its own characteristics. A lead battery stores a lot more energy. However, giving up large power in a short time, it quickly fails and is not completely discharged.
You can buy an EDLC in Moscow, but you need to rely on it as a power source for devices that need to consume more power for a short time. These include car starters, electronics, jack hammers, lights and more. The ultracapacitor charges in a few seconds. He gives out any power without prejudice to himself. The main thing is that the connecting wires withstand them.
