With all the advantages that EDLC have, it is not yet possible to talk about their mass use in a wide market. Firstly, this is due to the lack of potential consumers of knowledge about their merits. It is not a long time to buy an ultra-capacitor or an ultra-capacitor module assembled from several elements. The need for such energy storage devices is obvious, therefore, a significant expansion of their presence is expected in the near future.
Secondly, the price established on the ultracapacitor is still considered high. Each year, the cost of these drives is reduced. This is due to cheaper technologies and the expansion of the geography of their production. However, the psychological price barrier for the mass buyer has not yet been overcome. Moreover, in special areas EDLC has long been widely used, and the use of such elements gives a significant profit. This in many respects pushes forward the technology of their production.
The manufacturers of wind power stations and uninterruptible power supplies decided to buy and implement the very first ultracapacitor on the market. While the former are still among the "green" technologies with a limited scope, UPS systems are available in almost every home.
The ultracapacitor has a great future, because many of its positive aspects are still not fully disclosed. For example, an element weighing 1 kg can give the same power as a 40-pound car battery. And at the same time, the efficiency of such an energy storage is at least 95%.
